Exploring Buffalo Mop: A Hidden Gem in Limestone County
Published: October 5, 2005
Buffalo Mop is a small rural community located on Farm Road 147 about twelve miles southwest of Groesbeck in southwestern Limestone County. Settlement began in the late 1800s, and farmers established close ties with the nearby Odds community which had a store and post office for area residents. During the first half of the twentieth century, Buffalo Mop consisted of a church and farms. Though Buffalo Mop was no longer shown on highway maps at the end of the twentieth century, the 2000 census reported twenty-one residents for the dispersed community.
