Canyon City is a community located on Farm Road 306 along the Guadalupe River and just below Canyon Dam about thirteen miles northwest of New Braunfels in north-northeastern Comal County. Development of this primarily residential area began in the 1960s after the completion of Canyon Lake in 1964. In 1970 the population was 100. That figure remained the same through 2000. The community suffered widespread damage from floods in 1998 and 2002.
