Cedar Shores: A Historical Overview of the Lakeside Community
Published: December 9, 2005
Cedar Shores is a lakeside community located off Farm Road 56 about ten miles east of Meridian in eastern Bosque County. In the early 1960s William Holloman, owner of American Resort Development, advertised a large resort tract situated along the western shore of Lake Whitney. The property, named Cedar Shores Estates for the regional landscape, consisted of a total of 700 acres. Lake lots covered 400 acres, and an additional 300 acres held recreational facilities, including swimming and picnic areas, playgrounds, and marinas. By 1970 the community had a population of 150. That figure increased to 170 in 1980 and remained constant through 2000. The 2000 census reported the residential development simply as Cedar Shores.
