Central Gardens is located on State Highway 347 about six miles southeast of Beaumont in eastern Jefferson County. The community was shown on highway maps as early as the 1930s and probably developed as a result of the growing oil and petrochemical industries in Jefferson County. Situated on the Kansas City Southern Railway, the town served area workers. By the latter half of the twentieth century Central Gardens consisted of numerous residential developments as well as stores and an industrial park. In 1990 the population was 4,026. That figure increased to 4,106 in 2000.
