Discover Freedom, Texas: A Hidden Rural Community
Published: November 18, 2004
Freedom is a small rural community located off State Highway 19 about six miles northeast of Emory in northeastern Rains County and near Lake Fork Reservoir. Freedom School operated in the early 1900s but was probably closed by the mid-1900s. No population estimates were available for the community until 1990 and 2000 when sixty residents were reported. Freedom Church of God served families in the area.
