Governor Jim Hogg City Park and RV Park, located on State Highway 37 just south of downtown Quitman in Wood County, is named for James Stephen Hogg, the first Texas native governor, and was first opened in 1941 by the Wood County Old Settlers Association as Quitman City Park. In 1946 the group turned over seventeen acres to the state and named the park Governor Hogg Shrine State Historical Park. An additional 4.74 acres were given by the governor's daughter, Ima Hogg, in 1970; three additional acres were later purchased for the park. In 2007 the state sold the park to the city of Quitman, and the site was renamed Governor Jim Hogg City Park and RV Park.
The park comprises approximately twenty-seven acres and contains three museums. The Ima Hogg Museum, built in 1969, serves as park headquarters and features displays on the history of Northeast Texas. The Stinson House was the home of Hogg's wife's parents, and Hogg and his wife, Sarah Ann “Sallie” Stinson, were married there in 1874. This house was originally located at another site; it was purchased by Ima Hogg and moved to the park in 1969. The Honeymoon Cottage Museum where James and Sarah Ann Hogg spent their honeymoon, was restored and also moved to the park by Ima Hogg. The park offers a playground, basketball court, campsites, pavilions, and a nature walk as well as the Quitman Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. The site also hosts events such as the annual Old Settlers Reunion.
