Published: August 26, 2004
Highland Bayou is a small residential community located off State Highway 6 about nine miles west-northwest of Galveston in Galveston County. The development, named for the nearby bayou, began as a fishing village in the 1960s. Most of the residences served as weekend homes. Over the years more houses became permanent residences. Highland Bayou had a population of 1,209 in 1990 and maintained that number in 2000.
