Jazz’SAlive is an annual jazz festival held in San Antonio. Hailed as one of the largest free jazz festivals in the United States, the two-day event, which began in 1984, takes place downtown in Travis Park on the third weekend of September.
The festival features local, national, and international artists performing a variety of styles, including fusion, Latin style, big band, and smooth jazz, on two stages. Throughout the years such jazz luminaries as Dave Brubeck, Dianne Reeves, Spyro Gyra, Chuck Mangione, Wayne Shorter, and Sergio Mendes have played at Jazz’SAlive. The event also showcases jazz bands from area military bases. In addition to the stage performances, the festival is known for its after-hours jam sessions held at the St. Anthony Hotel.
In 2015 Jazz’SAlive was cosponsored by the San Antonio Parks Foundation and the City of San Antonio along with corporate sponsors such as Valero and Bud Light. The music festival also offers children’s activities, food sales, and craft vendors.
