Pecan Grove is an affluent residential community located in northeastern Fort Bend County on Farm Road 359, about four miles northeast of Richmond and some twenty-six miles southwest of Houston. Bruce Belin and Associates purchased approximately 1,450 acres in 1973 and by 1978 began construction of the development. Named for the stately pecan trees growing in the area, the community was originally referred to as Pecan Grove Plantation and later simply Pecan Grove. Amenities included a country club, golf course, tennis courts, and other recreational features. In the mid-1980s population estimates ranged from 8,000 to 8,500. In 1990 Pecan Grove had a population of 9,502. That figure increased to 13,551 in 2000. Many of the residents work in Houston.
