Discover Rough Creek: A Hidden Gem in San Saba County
Published: September 13, 2007
Rough Creek is a tiny rural community located at the end of Farm Road 1031 about ten miles southeast of San Saba in eastern San Saba County. The settlement was named after a nearby creek and probably began by the early 1900s. In the 1930s Rough Creek School served the children of area farming families. The school and a church still appeared on highway maps in the 1960s. By 2000 county maps showed a cemetery in the region, and Rough Creek had a population of fifteen.
